The development of the DeVeTec waste heat power plant

To ensure the sustainability of the product, we have decided to implement heat utilisation exclusively on the basis of a closed-loop process, without a permanent supply of operating materials.

DeVeTec relies on an ORC process to convert the waste heat into usable energy:
An organic working medium is pressurised and vaporised and superheated by means of the energy of the waste heat. The resulting steam drives the working machine, making the energy of the waste heat available as shaft work.

The development of our piston expander as the working machine of an ORC process allows highly efficient waste heat utilisation and the achievement of planning goals to improve the environmental compatibility of energy-intensive processes. The immediate conversion of waste heat into electricity, compressed air or cooling (Heat2X) makes our working machine unique worldwide. In the DeVeTec waste heat power plants, we use environmentally friendly bio-ethanol as the working medium for the ORC process instead of the very environmentally harmful refrigerants usually used. The ethanol is condensed and compressed downstream of the working machine before being conveyed to the evaporator again, where it is evaporated once more. The heat dissipated during condensation can be used for hot water supply, heating purposes, but also for drying and preheating processes.
